Cancer and Old Age

Cancer is closely associated with aging: 60% of all cancers occur in individuals 65 and older, and 70% of all deaths occur in this age group.

Cancer is mainly a disease of older people, with seven out of ten of all new cases occurring in older people who are over 60 years old. Aging causes molecular, cellular, and physiological changes in the body that can influence the development of cancer.

However, malignant changes in cells can occur at any age and certain cancers develop more frequently in children and young people or are specific to these age groups.
