Difference between tumor and neoplasm

Tumor means swelling, neoplasm means new growth and doctors may also refer to lesions and ulcers. All these terms can be used to describe either a benign condition or a malignant one.

In other words, both tumor and neoplasm refer to the same thing. However, the word neoplasm is not synonymous with cancer. A neoplasm may be benign or malignant.
